Selling Your Hometown: Writing Travel Articles About Your Own Town

Selling Your Hometown: Writing Travel Articles About Your Own Town

People love to travel. Whether it is to large, ancient cities visited by millions of tourists each year, or cosy little bread-and-breakfast towns-people love to go out into the world to discover what it has to offer. No wonder tourism makes a significant portion of the revenues of many towns.

If you're looking to put your town on the map, writing travel articles is a great way to reach travellers. The birth and growth of the Internet has significantly changed the way we gather and disseminate information. These days, one can do a simple search for a holiday destination and be rewarded with literally millions of travel articles. The good news is, by the same vein, what you write about your hometown can reach thousands of readers from all over the world; it's just a matter of great writing and proper marketing.

People read travel articles with a single goal: information. People love learning about their place of interest, and knowing what to expect when they get there. They appreciate recommendations on where to stay and what sites to see, events and activities they can participate in, great restaurants and the local delicacies, 'what the town is famous for', and other helpful information, including famous residents and sites of historical significance. The more someone can learn about your hometown, the more excited they will be about visiting this new place and the more comfortable they will feel about making the journey. Therefore, doing your research is important. The more information you have, the better you can sell your product.

When listing the selling points of your town in your travel articles, remember that people are multi-faceted. They have different interests and passions, and travel for different reasons. Towns or cities are the same-they all have different facets and points of interest. Many travel magazines and blogs ask for general information, whereas others prefer more-targeted, special-interest information, such as the local cuisine or local events and festivals. Providing the right information for the right market is therefore crucial. For example, when writing for budget travel magazines, consider giving recommendations on safe but affordable accommodations, great but cheap food, and free attractions.

However, as helpful as facts and figures are, what sells a destination is its unique charm and characteristics-a personality that is only its own-and the history and experiences it offers to visitors. As someone who loves your hometown, you are in the best position to tell the story of your town, make it come alive to your readers, and invite them to become part of it. Write passionately about what makes it unique and why you and your fellow residents love it, and you won't help but produce a compelling article. What you do with it it then is up to you!

Family Friendly Cities and Towns - Best Places to Travel With Kids

Family Friendly Cities and Towns - Best Places to Travel With Kids

Child friendly cities can be found all over the world. They provide a wide range of family activities, some educational and others just plain fun. Most child-friendly cities are quite affordable and it is quite simple to get to them.

If we talk about kid friendly cities in the United States, we should say a few words about San Diego.The Wild Animal Park in San Diego is really worth seen. Another place to talk about is Chicago.There are no theme parks or famous landmarks, but still it can be called a kid friendly city. Surely it depends on the interest of a particular child, but for some children, who can appreciate the world-class art, architecture and most incredible iconic American team sports, Chicago is a good choice.The Art Institute, the Cubs at Wrigley, the Skywalk on the 94th floor of the John Hancock building can also impress the children very much.You'll also come across the elevated trains, water taxis and more than a hundred miles of bike paths.Tourist office of the city has created a special interactive audio guide, which is called " Chicago for Kids". Cape Town on a Budget - A Short Travel Guide

Cape Town on a Budget - A Short Travel Guide

Cape Town is one of the South Africa's destinations of choice for international holidaymakers. It is also known for being South Africa's most expensive city for tourists, and with good reason. It has exclusive shopping complexes such as the Victoria and Alfred Waterfront and Canal Walk, luxury 5-star hotels such as the One & Only, and expensive eateries in Bantry Bay and Camps Bay. However, its reputation as an expensive travel destination is somewhat misleading - it is possible for those with more limited budgets to make the most of what the city and the surrounding area has to offer.

In terms of budget accommodation, Cape Town has a number of affordable guesthouses and hostels. Many of its popular hostels are located in Long Street in the city centre. This is a great location from which to explore the city and surrounding areas due to the easy availability of public transport and the vibrant nightlife in the area.

In terms of budget transport, Cape Town has one of the most sophisticated public transport systems in South Africa. It has a reliable, safe and efficient network of buses, the Golden Arrow buses, which connect the Golden Acre bus station in the city centre with various other areas in and around the city. Bus fares for a single trip to any destination cost between R5 and R12 (roughly between 80 US cents and USD 1.50). Travellers are able to catch Golden Arrow buses from the city centre to most of the popular beaches in the area.

The City of Cape Town recently commenced running new bus service, the MyCity bus service. The MyCity buses are an efficient, affordable and safe way of getting between Cape Town International Airport and the Civic Centre in the inner city, with tickets for a one-way trip on this route costing R53 (roughly USD 7). The MyCity buses also provide transport between the Civic Centre and the Victoria and Alfred Waterfront in Greenpoint, and between the Civic Centre and Table View.

In terms of nightlife, Long Street has dozens of bars, pubs and nightclubs that are popular with travellers and locals alike. Most of them do not charge an entrance fee, and travellers with limited funds can enjoy a good night out on Long Street without breaking the bank.

Travellers on a budget can enjoy Cape Town's beaches at no cost. Popular beaches in the area include Clifton, Camps Bay and Muizenberg Beach, all of which are on the public transport routes.

A great way to spend an afternoon in Cape Town without spending too much money is to take a boat trip to Seal Island. Trips in glass-bottomed boats are available from Hout Bay harbour to Seal Island at around R60 each (less than USD 9). These trips are about an hour long, and are a great way of seeing the area's abundant marine life, including its large seal population.

Cape Town is a city with something for all travellers, from those who wish to enjoy a luxury holiday with money being no object, to those who prefer to travel cheaply and don't mind roughing it by staying in more basic accommodation and using the city's public transport system.

Guatemala Travel - Best Places To Visit And Things To Do

Guatemala Travel - Best Places To Visit And Things To Do

One of the favorite areas to visit during vacations in Central America is the southern coast of Guatemala. I know these beaches are nowhere as beautiful as the surrounding countries such as Mexico or Honduras but you still can have a lot of fun.

Here are some places you can visit and things you can do:

Monterrico

This is the most popular destination of the region. It is a black sanded beach where you will be able to take a look at sea turtles nesting or hatching (depending on the season). It doesn't have many lodging options but some are very good.

* Hawaii Park (Parque Hawaii)
* Biotope Monterrico-Hawaii
* Tortuguerio Monterrico
* Turtle tours

Retalhuleu

It is also known as Reu for the locals. This area became popular because it is home to Guatemala's greatest amusement parks. There are also nearby Mayan ruins worth visiting.

* Takalik Abaj
* Xocomil Water Park
* Xetulul Amusement Park

Puerto San Jose

Al though Monterrico is the most popular place among locals San Jose is the most visited place. That is because it is closer to Guatemala City. I recommend visiting this place for those travelers that want to do some fishing.

* Sailfishing
* Ostrich Farm
* Aqua Magic

The Popular Beach Town - Monterrico

This is a top beach destination of Guatemala and the most popular beach among locals. It consists of a teeny tiny town very limited with accommodations. However it has been quickly developing in the last couple of years.

It is a beautiful and quiet black sanded beach backed by coconut palms and mangrove. But by far the best attributes of the region are its natural charms.

The best places to visit in the area for nature lovers are:

* Parque Hawaii (Hawaii Park),
* Reserva Natural de Monterrico (Monterrico Nature Reserve),
* Tortuguerio Monterrico.

What to Do

* Birdwatching
* Boat tours along the mangrove canals
* Turtle tours at night
* Volunteering at Tortuguerio Monterrico

Lanquin Town

Lanquin is a small town located in the Alta Verapaz Department, Central Highlands of Guatemala. It is the closest town to the super popular Lanquin Caves. The most common way to get there is from the nearby and much bigger town of Coban. You can get there by driving through a dirt road along Cardamom plantations.

This tiny town is just minutes away from one of Guatemala's most famous attractions after Antigua and Tikal, the Lanquin Cave System. Lanquin is a series of limestone formations under the ground so big that no explorer has ever gotten to where they end.

Some tours that are offered in the area are:

* Horseback riding
* Rafting the Río Cahabón
* Hiking the Lanquin Caves

Places you gotta visit:

* Biotopo Mario Dary Rivera
* Semuc Champey Natural Monument
* Candelaria Caves National Park

Cheap Travel Places in Taipei

Cheap Travel Places in Taipei

Taipei is well known for being a holiday shopper's paradise. Taiwan is home to the tallest building in the world, Taipei 101. The lower floors of Taipei 101 house a huge shopping mall. Taipei 101 gets its name because it has 101 different stores. There is also another shopping mall in Taipei called "Sogo". Both "Sogo" and Taipei 101 are great places to shop with a lot of variety. However, if you are on a budget holiday, Xi Men Ding is the place you must go to. There are a lot of fashionable and trendy stuff for young people at Xi Meng Ding. The famous oyster mee sua is sold here as well. When we have finished shopping at Xi Meng Ding, we can go to the night markets when the sun goes down.

There are many night markets where we can get cheap food and cheap things. The most famous night market is the Shihlin Night Market. This is a place where travel agents will recommend and include in their vacation package to people who holiday in Taipei. Many Taipei residents also head to Keelung on the weekends. Keelung is located at the north of Taipei City. It is a village kind of setting and they have their famous night market which sells a lot of cheap and good food.

After Shihlin Night Market, energetic tourist can visit the twenty four hours Cheng Pin Book Store. This is a very big book store with many varieties of books from all over the world. Book lovers who cannot sleep can curl up in the corner with a book the whole night. Taipei also has a lot of karaoke lounge and night spots worth exploring.

There is a town called Jiu Fen at the outskirts of Taipei. It is the backdrop for the award winning movie starred by Tony Leung and Maggi Cheung. It is very inaccessible with only one bus to the town a day. This town is on top of a mountain and used to be a mining town. Now it is converted to a place with a lot of two story tea houses. After we are tired from the your of the town, we can sit down at one of the tea house to enjoy a cup of tea. The town is located on the mountains, so drinking tea in the tea house can give us the experience of being among the clouds.

Top 3 Reasons To Visit Cinque Terre When You Travel To Italy

Top 3 Reasons To Visit Cinque Terre When You Travel To Italy

One of the top destinations to visit in the world is Italy. From its picturesque hill towns to its breath-taking cliff towns and everything in between, Italy plays host to just about any kind of vacation you want. But how do you decide what to see? I recommend spending a good amount of time in the Italian Riviera visiting 5 small towns knows as the Cinque Terre and here are the top 3 reasons why.

1) Visually Stunning

Cinque Terre is comprised of 5 very tiny towns clinging to the cliffs along the coast of Italy. Riomaggiore, Corniglia, Manarola, Vernazza and Monterosso al Mare are all distinct quaint towns that offer such stunning views you will never want to leave. The building colors are bright blues, pinks, reds, greens, yellows and more. In true Italian style the buildings in each town are stacked and packed all with their own little harbor and fishing boats on one side and lush mountain cliffs and vineyards on the other side. A must see for the artist, photographer, or anyone wanting to enjoy the beauty of these 5 towns.

2) Off The Beaten Path

Aside from being so beautiful, Cinque Terre is off the beaten path in more than one way. These towns are literally cut off from roads. There are parking sites you can use to get close and walk into the towns, but no tour busses or droves of drivers can or do come to these amazing places. The only way around each town is to walk and there are trains that stop at each town as well as a hiking trail if you choose to walk to each little city. Another way they keep from being overwhelmed is that the villas and hotels are truly Italian in style and comfort. You won't find those who only enjoy night life, soft pillows and many extra amenities here, just peace and quiet of very small groups, and adventurous solo travelers.

3) Unesco World Heritage Site

Being a Unesco World Heritage Site means that no new buildings can be built and each town is protected from modernization. A blast from the past, these centuries old places hold unique culture, pride and beauty from a time long, long ago. The people who live here are from a long line of families that have lived here from the beginning. They are Italian through and through. The people are not the only part of this amazing place, but the buildings themselves show just how amazing it was to live in the world during this time. A time travel tunnel back to when people sustained themselves on the land and sea around them.

So take the trip of time travel when you go to these less busy, striking towns. Although those happen to be 3 of the top reasons to visit, there are many more, including hiking trails, amazing beaches and all the seafood you can eat!

Listen, we are just about to release our newest product called "Get Out And Travel" (Valued at $47) and we are giving it away for a limited time in return for answering the question below.

What is your #1 question about how to travel more?

New England Travel Guide - Places to Visit

New England Travel Guide - Places to Visit

New England is a beautiful area of the world any time of the year. New England refers to the northeastern states of Maine, New Hampshire, Vermont, Massachusetts, Connecticut and Rhode Island. Travel around this area can be done by bus, car, train, plane, seaplane or ship.

New England Travel Guide: Boston Area

Boston is considered the cosmopolitan "capital" of New England. With such a rich cultural history, Boston is certainly a great vacation spot as it has much to offer the entire family. However, because of the way Boston is laid out, it can be tricky maneuvering it by car, and it is easy to get lost on foot. The South Station Transportation Center is the ideal place for tourists to start. This terminal includes the MBTA subway station, which includes not only subways but buses as well. South station houses the Commuter Rail and intercity Amtrak trains. The Bus Station resides within South Station and handles interstate and regional buses.

Some of the places to visit while in Boston include:

- Boston Common which is Boston's Central Park and is the center of Boston.
- Beacon Hill is quaint and charming with its 18th century and 19th century houses on narrow, colonial-days like streets
- The Charles River Esplanade - an area along the Charles River where The Hatch Memorial is the site for open air concerts.
- Faneuil Hall Marketplace and Quincy Market is a historic and well known area featuring all sorts of shops, taverns and food vendors.

New England Travel Guide: Connecticut

The Shoreline in Connecticut reaches between the well-to-do neighborhood of Greenwich to New Haven, a much different city than Greenwich in that it is more a town of based on industry and business. Due to the frequency of train travel, these neighborhoods are considered suburbs of New York City.

Places to visit while visiting the Connecticut Shoreline include:

- Hammonasset State Park, is a preferred resort area because of its fine sandy beaches and somewhat warm water.
- Wineries and vineyards. There are over a dozen in Connecticut alone with many of them along the shoreline. Thanks to geography (moderating influence on the climate by Long Island Sound) the grapes love this area.
- Connecticut River is dotted with charming, historical towns. Many of them are wealthy towns due to shipbuilding ventures in the 1700's and 1800's.
- Mystic Seaport is a place for kids and adults alike. Horse-drawn carriage rides, climbing aboard sailing vessels, as well as boat rides along the Mystic River.

New England Travel Guide: Getting in Touch with Nature in Vermont

Vermont is the perfect area for all sorts of outdoor activities: hiking, biking, skiing and camping. Where should you go when visiting Vermont? Try Montpelier, Middlebury, Northeast Kingdom and Plymouth, just to name a few.

- Visit in the spring, or "Mud time" when Vermonters take collect sap from maple trees and turn it into maple syrup. This is a fun, environmentally friendly activity for everyone in the family.
- Killington is one of the finest spots for skiing. Even with its long winter season, Killington is well noted for its snow production and grooming.
- If you're looking for a taste of Europe, Stowe is the place. The home of Vermont's tallest mountain, the town has rolling emerald hills, steep slopes and windy roads.

There are many interesting and historical towns and cities to enjoy in the New England area. While each state might just be a little bit different, they all share the same great New England qualities: clean air, healthy living and beautiful scenery.

Forgotten Places - Bodie, CA - A 1,000 Acre Gold Rush Ghost Town

Forgotten Places - Bodie, CA - A 1,000 Acre Gold Rush Ghost Town

In my thoughts of places to travel during Halloween and October, my mind went to hayrides and ghost towns. Since I cannot in good conscious write to you about a pulled wagon, I chose a charming abandoned town that time and travel has forgotten. Here are some travel trips and a little history of this former California Town.

Nestled an hour northwest of glorious Yosemite National Park just before the California/Nevada State line, you will find a town that will take you back to a time long forgotten. Many parts of the town of Bodie, CA will seem a bit strange because it seems as if the residents just picked up and left. It is a town that time stands still in.

During the gold rush, things were bustling in Bodie, however, not everything was peaceful and happy. Lawless men ruled the town, and life expectancy was not as long as it was in other California towns. At one time Bodie had up to 10,000 people. However, after the gold rush ended, the town became barren and then by the 1940's all residents had left the town.

The lack of commercial buildings and modern structures is one of the things visitors like about Bodie. Bathrooms are available near the parking lot, but other than a museum, the site is as it stood in the mid 1900's.

Visitors can travel to this Ghost Town by venturing off Highway 395. The town is supposedly open year round, but if you are heading up by car or SUV you might want to stick to arriving in the summer or fall. The elevation causes the area to be accessible by snow craft during the winter. Please note there are seasonal road closings in the area due to ice and snow.

Most of the towns 70 buildings are locked but windows provide a look into a life long ago forgotten. Some buildings are open and tours are available. Cost to enter the park is $3 per person over 17.

Here is a list of things to make sure you have available before you arrive.

  • Bottles of water and drinks
  • Lunch and Snacks
  • Windbreaker or Sweater if you stay for the evening
  • Batteries for your camera

The State Park Board preserved the site "as it stood" when it became a protected site, and should provide a great history lesson for all members of the family, for the near future. As far as historians are concerned, that is what makes it one of the best-maintained "Ghost Towns" in the United States.

Other places found within 5 hours of Bodie State Historic Park are the towns of Reno, Lake Tahoe, Fresno, and Sacramento, and 1 hour from Yosemite National Park.

If you happen to find yourself in this beautiful Northern California area and consider heritage a thing to be treasured then this is a part of America that you should not bypass.

Bodie was also host to the filming of the movie "Hell's Heroes" in 1929, starring Charles Bickford.

Travel Guide: How to Get to Town With an El Nido Package

Travel Guide: How to Get to Town With an El Nido Package

El Nido is a first class municipality in Palawan, Philippines. It offers a lot of attractions for those who are looking for a different kind of vacation. It is even considered as one of the favorite destinations in the country, patronized by both local and foreign tourists. This is why an El Nido package is often one of the most bought tour packages, especially during summer.

Getting to town is one of the common concerns of visitors. Fortunately, there's more than just one way to get to this beautiful town.

A regular El Nido package comes with round trip land transfers from Puerto Princesa City. This means that you'd have to go to Puerto Princesa first and then go on a 4-6 hour van ride. If you're not getting a tour package, you can catch a bus or a van in Puerto Princesa. You'll find buses and public vans leaving the city several times a day.

What's great about getting an El Nido package is that you are sure that a van is waiting for you when you get to Puerto Princesa. This is perfect if you're visiting town during the peak season.

If you're not too excited about the 4-6 hour road trip, and you're coming from Manila, you may opt to take a chartered flight from Manila. This may be a bit costly. However, a chartered flight will definitely cut your travel time. Of course, this is also more comfortable than being stuck inside a van or bus for hours. The faster you get to town, the more time you'll have to island hopping and visiting interesting sites in town.

If you don't like to fly and don't easily get seasick, you may take a ferry. Travel time is about 30 hours. There are ferries leaving Manila several times a week. If you're coming from Coron, you may also catch a boat going to El Nido.

Getting Around Town

El Nido is such a small town. You can get to different places by simply walking. But if you don't likewalking a lot, you may rent a motorcycle or ride a tricycle. An El Nido package often includes a town tour with transportation arrangements. Unless you'd like to go somewhere else not included in the itinerary, you really wouldn't need to rent a vehicle during your stay.

Getting an El Nido package is the most convenient way to plan a vacation to this beautiful town. So, what are you waiting for? Contact your travel agent and book a trip!

England Travel Tips - The Must See Places

England Travel Tips - The Must See Places

If you are planning a trip to England then you will certainly want to draw up a list of places that you want to go and visit. England is a very diverse country, but fortunately not geographically big meaning that it is possible to be based in one place for the duration of your visit and journey out to various areas of the country.

The Southeast

For most people, the Southeast is where a visit to England begins, not least because this is where the country's main airports and sea ports are found. Of course, the Southeast is also where the world renowned capital city, London, is situated and this is without doubt number 1 of many a visitors' itinerary. Southeast England, and also the eastern, regions, do however offer many others attractions, including medieval castles, beautiful gardens and quaint towns. One particularly enchanting town in the Southeast is Canterbury, whose famous cathedral has attracted visitors for well over 500 years.

The Southeast is also home to some glorious coastal areas and towns. Rye is one such example, where visitors can stroll along the old winding cobbled streets and imagine themselves being in a period film drama set a hundred or more years ago. Rye also has some excellent restaurants and traditionally English pubs where the traveller can stop off to relax and maybe sample a good English ale. The town's locations and good quality accommodation makes it a good location for southern base, from which visitors can journey up or down the south coast of England.

To the west and north of London, the famous University towns of Oxford and Cambridge are well worth a visit.

The West and Central England

England's West Country, as it known, is synonymous with a more laid back pace of life where outdoor pursuits such as surfing in Cornwall or walking in Dartmoor are popular pastimes.

Of course, one of the most famous attractions in England's west is Stonehenge, a majestic ancient monument surround by mystery and intrigue which draws visitors from around the world who wonder just how and why it came to being. The beautiful spa town of Bath lays less than an hour's drive to the west of Stonehenge, and offer visitors the chance to explore the Roman baths around which the town developed.

Another famous town, Stratford-upon-Avon, known as the birthplace of William Shakespeare draws tourists from miles around and it another worthy addition to any itinerary.

Northern England

England's north is where the country's most rugged landscapes are found, together with medieval towns and villages such as York. Home to probably the best example of a Gothic cathedral anywhere in Europe, York is a popular destination which offers much despite its compact size. The Peak District, Yorkshire Dales, the North York Moors and the Lake District are all found in the north of England and all offer stunning, quintessentially English landscapes where visitors can enjoy quieter surrounding, fresh air and good walk followed by a hearty meal in a old English inn.

Visit the Underworld

For those who have a morbid fascination about the dead and want to visit the catacombs of Paris or have been able to visit it, then they might be interested in visiting the Cementerio de la Recoleta in Buenos Aires. Unlike the catacombs where you have to go underground filled with skulls and bones of Parisians, the Cementerio de la Recoleta is located above ground. What makes the cemetery a popular tourist destination is the cemetery is composed of countless streets with marble sarcophagi and impressive statues. The cemetery is home to some of Argentina's popular personalities including past presidents, rich and famous people, military heroes as well as well-known politicians. Free tours are available and are in English.
